The Specialty Resource Surgical Technologist/LPN is a certified professional who, through advanced education and extensive clinical experience, demonstrates expertise in a specific area of surgical practice. This individual is self-motivated, requires minimal oversight, and actively contributes to the development of both personal and team knowledge. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities

1. Ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care within the Operating Room. 2. Assist in the preparation and organization of surgical equipment and supplies. 3. Collaborate as a vital team member in executing the patient's care plan. 4. Exhibit proficiency with surgical procedures and equipment as validated by skills assessments. 5. Demonstrate commitment to departmental responsibilities and personal professional growth. 6. Enhance departmental productivity and operational efficiency. 7. Uphold the Quality Service Excellence Standards of Yale New Haven Health. 8. Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with hospital policies. 9. Exhibit knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. 10. Engage in continuous improvement of personal skills and knowledge. 11. Foster a respectful and professional environment for patients and colleagues. 12. Present a professional demeanor and attire in all interactions. 13. Maintain a clean and safe workspace. 14. Anticipate and address the needs of patients and visitors proactively. 15. Participate in leadership development and team-building initiatives.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

High school diploma; completion of a certified surgical technician program preferred, or possess a Practical Nursing license with relevant Operating Room experience. National Certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Candidates must meet the qualifications for Surgical Technician/LPN, with a minimum of 2 years of current experience in an operating room, consistently demonstrating competent practice. Maintenance of certification and membership in the AST is required. Participation in continuing education, with at least 20 contact hours annually, is expected, with 75% directly related to surgical technology.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Ability to perform advanced scrub assistant duties, demonstrating in-depth clinical experience and proficiency in a defined surgical practice area. The Specialty Resource Surgical Technologist/LPN actively engages in unit-based committees, updates and enforces policies, and supports team building while mentoring new staff and facilitating their educational needs.
