The Surgical Technologist/LPN serves as a certified professional who, through extensive education and clinical expertise, demonstrates exceptional skill in a specialized area of surgical practice. This role requires a highly motivated and self-sufficient individual who can perform responsibilities with minimal oversight. The Surgical Technologist/LPN is committed to personal and professional development and actively contributes to the collective knowledge and growth of the team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care within the Operating Room. 2. Assist in the transportation of patients to and from surgical areas. 3. Prepare and organize necessary equipment and supplies for surgical procedures. 4. Coordinate and plan for intraoperative supplies and equipment. 5. Collaborate as a team member in executing the patient's care plan. 6. Exhibit proficiency with surgical procedures and equipment as validated by skills assessments. 7. Demonstrate accountability to the department and a commitment to ongoing career development. 8. Contribute to the efficiency and productivity of the department. 9. Uphold the Quality Service Excellence Standards of Yale New Haven Health. 10. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with hospital policies. 11. Display knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. 12. Exhibit flexibility and open-mindedness in team interactions. 13. Treat all individuals we serve with the utmost respect and courtesy. 14. Listen actively to patients, visitors, and staff, addressing concerns promptly. 15. Present a professional demeanor at all times. 16. Maintain a clean and safe working environment. 17. Anticipate the needs of patients and visitors, providing assistance proactively.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
High school diploma; completion of a certified technician program preferred, or a license in Practical Nursing, along with relevant Operating Room experience and advanced education. National Certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Candidates must meet the criteria for Surgical Technician/LPN, possessing a minimum of 2 years of current experience in an operating room and consistently demonstrating competent practice in assigned services. Certification and membership in the AST are required, along with participation in continuing education, attending at least 20 contact hours per year, with 75% directly related to surgical technology.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Ability to perform advanced scrub assistant responsibilities, with in-depth clinical experience and proficiency in specialized areas of practice. This role involves collaboration in unit-based committees, policy enforcement, and monitoring the educational progress of new staff members.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
May involve exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and radiation.
