Clinical Nurse Specialist

The RN Clinical Nurse plays a vital role within a collaborative team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers dedicated to delivering personalized, high-quality, and safe patient care. This position operates within a clinical framework overseen by Nurse Managers and supported by the Wellstar Shared Governance Model.
Practice Framework

Key Responsibilities
- Conducts the Nursing Process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical care based on evidence-based practices.
- Employs analytical and critical thinking skills to ensure individualized care, fostering effective partnerships to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Delivers relationship-centered care that respects diverse population characteristics, adapting service delivery to cultural needs.
- Engages with patients and their significant others, utilizing appropriate communication methods to enhance care planning.
- Provides timely patient education and updates, ensuring that patient goals remain central to the care plan.
- Adheres to current clinical practice standards in all nursing activities.
- Coordinates safe, quality patient care delivery and documentation, promoting a professional care delivery model.
- Facilitates interdisciplinary communication and collaboration, ensuring timely documentation and a respectful clinical environment.
- Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration while being fiscally responsible and supporting the recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives, research, and shared governance to enhance patient care quality.
- Completes all required professional competency assessments and ongoing education.
- Serves as a mentor and preceptor for nursing staff and students, fostering a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment.
- Promotes evidence-based practices and nursing research to improve care quality.
- Engages in value analysis for patient care products as part of the decision-making process.
- Complies with all healthcare system policies, procedures, and standards, including legal and accreditation requirements.
- Participates in data collection and formulates relevant clinical questions to advance evidence-based practice.
- Consults with experts and utilizes resources to address practice-related inquiries.
- Plans proactively for patient care across the continuum while delivering direct care.
- Contributes to the development of protocols and procedures in collaboration with care managers and team members to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Supports the efficient use of human and material resources.
Education Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Nursing or graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
Licensure and Certification
- Registered Nurse (Single State)
- RN - Multi-state Compact
- Basic Life Support Certification
- BLS Instructor Certification
- BLS Provisional Certification
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience following completion of an accredited nursing program with required clinical hours.
- Direct patient care experience is preferred.
