The RN Clinical Nurse plays a vital role within a collaborative team of healthcare professionals, ensuring that patients, families, and significant others receive personalized, high-quality, and safe care.
This position operates within a clinical setting managed by Nurse Managers and supported by the Wellstar Shared Governance Model.
The practice framework is guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, emphasizing evidence-based practices and research.
RN competencies are aligned with these models and are reinforced by the Wellstar Values.
All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and adhere to the standards of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards established by the American Nurses Association.
As a member of the patient services team, the RN is expected to advocate for the patient’s voice while adhering to system policies and procedures, supporting service excellence goals.
- Conducts the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in clinical care using evidence-based practices.
- Employs analytical and critical thinking to ensure individualized care, coordinating effectively with partners to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Delivers relationship-centered, patient-focused care that is tailored to specific population characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) while respecting cultural diversity.
- Collaborates with patients and significant others using appropriate communication methods (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds).
- Provides timely patient education, keeping patients and significant others informed and aligning care plans with patient goals.
- Practices in accordance with current clinical standards.
- Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that supports the professional care delivery model.
- Engages in diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods (e.g., case reviews, interdisciplinary rounds), ensuring timely documentation and fostering a respectful clinical environment.
- Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration, practicing in a fiscally responsible manner that promotes the recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives, involving all stakeholders, and supports research utilization to enhance safe, quality patient care.
- Completes all required professional competency assessments and ongoing education, including population-specific training.
- Serves as a mentor and preceptor for other nursing professionals and students, ensuring a qualified workforce and promoting a healthy work environment.
- Advocates for evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement within the nursing field.
- Engages in value analysis as part of the decision-making process for evaluating patient care products.
- Adheres to all healthcare system policies, procedures, and clinical competencies, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Participates in data collection and formulates relevant clinical questions to advance evidence-based practice.
- Consults with experts and utilizes appropriate resources to address practice questions.
- Proactively plans for patient care across the continuum while delivering direct patient services.
- Contributes to the development of protocols and procedures in collaboration with care managers and healthcare team members to achieve best practice outcomes.
- Supports the efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
- Associate's Degree in Nursing or graduation from an accredited/approved nursing program is required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.

- BLS Instructor Certification
- BLS Provisional Certification
- A minimum of 5 years of experience from an accredited/approved nursing program with requisite clinical hours.
- Direct patient care experience is preferred.
