Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Police Sergeant to join our team at the City of Hermosa Beach Isai. As a key member of our police department, you will be responsible for supervising and participating in the work of a small group of police officers engaged in general patrol activities on an assigned shift.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and participate in the work of a group of officers assigned to patrol duties within designated districts
  • Check the condition of police equipment and appearance of officers
  • Follow up on non-routine calls and assist and instruct officers in the handling of difficult problems
  • Review accident reports and instruct officers on proper reporting procedures
  • Analyze traffic and accident data and recommend preventive actions
  • Receive information or complaints at the station or by radio
  • Discuss complaints or problems with citizens and others
  • Conduct and participate in training courses on the work of the department
  • Prepare regular and special reports
  • May relieve superior officer in his absence or as assigned
Requirements
  • AA/AS degree or 60 units from an accredited college or university or Intermediate P.O.S.T. Certificate at the time of appointment
  • Possession of P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate and completion of P.O.S.T. Supervisory requirements within probationary period
  • Four years of full-time sworn police experience, the last one with the Hermosa Beach Police Department
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License with a safe driving record
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to make sound decisions in emergency situations. The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
