The City of Hermosa Beach Isai seeks a highly skilled and experienced Police Lieutenant to lead our public safety team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our police department, ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and direct the work of police officers, sergeants, and other support staff in their assigned duties.
- Assign and direct the work of officers engaged in patrol activities, traffic, or investigation activities.
- Receive complaints or reports of emergencies and determine the need for police action.
- Assist officers in handling difficult situations and provide guidance and training to subordinate officers.
- Supervise officers in conducting preliminary and/or investigations of crimes and civil disturbances.
- Relieve superior officers in their absence as assigned.
- Requires thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
- Extensive knowledge of the City's geography.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
- Perform work requiring good physical condition.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors, civic groups, and other departments, agencies, and the public.
- Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
- Associates degree or 60 units from an accredited college or university.
- Four years of professional police experience with a public agency, including two years of experience as a Police Sergeant.
- Completion of advanced leadership training, such as P.O.S.T. Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI), LAPD Leadership Program, or equivalent is preferred.
- Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License with a safe driving record is required and must be maintained as valid during the course of employment.
- Possession of a P.O.S.T. Supervisory Certificate or be eligible to obtain a P.O.S.T Supervisory Certificate within one year of promotion to Lieutenant.
