Job Overview

The Housekeeping Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the hotel, guest rooms, public areas, laundry, and other assigned spaces. This position reports directly to the Executive Housekeeper and is responsible for coordinating all functions of the Housekeeping and Laundry departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision: Direct, interview, hire, counsel, and schedule work duties for Housekeeping associates.
  • Pre-Shift Meetings: Lead pre-shift meetings to communicate arrivals, departures, identify VIPs, delegate room assignments, and duties.
  • Staff Management: Assist the Executive Housekeeper in interviewing and selecting new associates for hire, monitor staff productivity and efficiency, and recommend promotions or changes in status.
  • Employee Relations: Assist in handling employee complaints and grievances, and disciplining staff up to termination when necessary.
  • Inventory Management: Determine the type of materials, supplies, and tools to be used or merchandise to be bought, stocked, and sold.
  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Supervise and inspect the cleaning of guest rooms, turndown service, public areas, and back-of-house spaces to ensure compliance with accident/loss prevention programs, SOPs, and health/sanitation standards and regulations.
  • Emergency Procedures: Implement emergency training and procedures to ensure the protection of guests, staff, and company assets.
  • Supply Management: Issue assignments to staff, review special requests, and areas of concentration to ensure a smooth flow of the housekeeping operation.
  • Guest Satisfaction: Respond to guest requests, concerns, and problems to ensure guest satisfaction, log items into the Lost and Found, and answer inquiries to maintain controls and ensure guest satisfaction.
Qualifications
  • Education: One to two years of post-high school education.
  • Experience: One to two years of employment in a related position with this company or other organization(s).
  • Knowledge and Skills: Self-starting personality, even disposition, ability to meet standards of appearance, and communicate well with guests.
Physical Demands
  • Physical Activity: Pushing vacuum, carrying supplies, carrying dirty linen, removing room service trays, and bending/kneeling to dust.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate with guests, housekeepers, main linen room attendant, and supervisor.
  • Mobility: Movement to reach all areas of responsibility, including shelves, windows, ledges, pipes, under and around furniture.
  • Continuous Standing: Continuously standing and/or walking to accomplish all required tasks.
  • Climbing Stairs: Approximately 40 steps, 15% of a 40-hour week.
