Position Overview: Senior Plumbing Engineer/Designer
The Building Engineering Services Group (BES) offers mechanical, electrical, plumbing, site civil, structural, and specialty design services for a diverse range of buildings, including public, municipal, private, and Federal projects across various regions.

Our experienced team specializes in market sectors such as Healthcare, Science and Technology, Data Centers, Higher Education, Federal, Transportation, Water, and Resources facilities, delivering engineering excellence to our clients.

We are committed to sustainable design and energy efficiency. The HDR BES group is seeking a Senior-Level Plumbing Engineer/Designer.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Plumbing Engineer/Designer, you will be responsible for:

1. Overseeing the plumbing, medical gas, and laboratory gas components of intricate projects, including hospitals and research facilities.
2. Independently assessing, selecting, and applying standard and advanced engineering methods to address a wide range of plumbing design challenges.
3. Completing plumbing system designs, including domestic cold and hot water, sanitary drainage, storm drainage, medical gas, laboratory gas, pumping systems, water treatment, reclaimed water, and natural gas distribution systems.
4. Taking charge of all project aspects, including drawings, specifications, schedules, budgets, and directing assigned staff.
5. Engaging with clients and contractors to ensure project alignment.
6. Interpreting engineering data for designers and drafters.
7. Continuously reviewing drawings for accuracy and completeness, overseeing deliverables for quality assurance.
8. Mentoring and developing the skills of designers and drafters.
9. Monitoring project schedules and budgets.
10. Conducting field verification and assessments of existing systems for renovation projects.
11. Reviewing and summarizing relevant codes for project design, drawings, and specifications.
12. Coordinating plumbing work with other disciplines and consultants.
13. Reviewing shop drawings and addressing requests for information.
14. Preparing periodic project status reports for management review.
15. Writing project specifications as needed for plumbing scope.
16. Visiting project sites as required to monitor construction progress and resolve field issues.
17. Performing additional duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

Required:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in plumbing system design, including code review and interpretation.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable building and NFPA Codes related to plumbing systems.
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to take ownership of assignments and work independently as well as part of a larger project team.
- Strong motivation, organization, and professional initiative.
- Commitment to actively participating in our employee-owned culture.

Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- PE license preferred; candidates without a PE license will hold the title of Senior Plumbing Designer.
- Certifications such as CPD, GPD, LEED AP, and/or Medical Gas Designer are advantageous.
- Experience in fire protection systems design, including wet, dry, and specialty systems is a plus.
- Proficiency in Revit is beneficial.
