Role Summary

The Lead Engineer will oversee the technical design aspects of projects, serving as a subject matter expert and mentor to the engineering team. This role involves delegating responsibilities, guiding the work of Project Engineers and Designers, and ensuring quality throughout the design process to align with client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the technical project workflow and scope within the engineering discipline; review timelines and allocated resources; identify and rectify any discrepancies in collaboration with project management.
  • Assign tasks to project engineers and designers as necessary, ensuring effective workload distribution.
  • Adhere to ESD's quality management protocols; conduct project evaluations and approvals prior to all quality assurance and quality control reviews by the designated technical authority.
  • Maintain robust client relationships; effectively communicate project requirements, progress, and solutions to both clients and technical teams.
  • Facilitate collaboration across all engineering disciplines to ensure comprehensive integration of client requests into the design.
  • Act as a supervisor and resource for the technical design team; support the education and development of staff members.
  • Engage actively in the engineering community to enhance personal knowledge and professional development (e.g., attending industry meetings, seminars, and conferences).

Essential Qualifications

  • In-depth understanding of engineering principles and practices within the plumbing and fire protection disciplines, along with foundational knowledge in related fields.
  • Ability to conceptualize and devise solutions for complex systems and their interactions.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey project scope, timelines, and budgets to clients and team members.
  • Proficient in drafting detailed reports, business correspondence, and procedural documentation.
  • Capable of analyzing issues, solving problems, and mentoring others; organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative.
  • Able to independently tackle intricate challenges within the engineering discipline.

Education and Experience

  • Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant industry experience or 5 years as an employee of ESD (internships included).
  • Possession of a registered professional engineer (PE) license or other relevant professional certification is mandatory.
