Job Summary

The Building Engineering Services Group (BES) at HDR is seeking a Senior-Level Plumbing Engineer/Designer to join our team in New Jersey. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing complex plumbing projects, including hospitals, research facilities, data centers, and other facility types.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the plumbing, medical gas, and laboratory gas portions of complex projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard and advanced engineering techniques and procedures to make decisions on a broad range of plumbing design issues.
  • Complete design of plumbing systems, including domestic cold water, domestic hot water, sanitary drainage and vent systems, storm drainage systems, medical gas, laboratory gas, pumping systems, water treatment, reclaimed water, and natural gas distribution systems.
  • Take responsibility for all aspects of the work, including drawings and specifications, meeting schedules and budgets, and directing assigned staff.
  • Meet with clients and contractors to discuss project progress and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Interpret engineering data for designers and drafters, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in plumbing system design, including experience in code review and interpretation.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable building and NFPA Codes pertaining to plumbing systems.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a large project team.
  • Strong motivation, organization, and professional initiative.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • PE license preferred. Candidates hired without a PE license will have a title of Senior Plumbing Designer.
  • CPD, GPD, LEED AP, and/or Medical Gas Designer Certification a plus.
  • Fire protection systems design experience, including wet, dry, and specialty systems, a plus.
  • Proficiency in Revit a plus.
