POSITION: SCHOOL SAFETY MONITOR

JOB SUMMARY

The School Safety Monitor will work under the guidance of the site administrator(s) to ensure the safe passage of students across roadways at designated crosswalks.



ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge Required:


Understanding of district policies and procedures; Familiarity with traffic safety practices; Awareness of traffic regulations related to school zones; Knowledge of emergency assistance resources; Proficiency in operating safety equipment for escorting students; Strong oral communication skills; Interpersonal skills characterized by patience and courtesy.



Skills Needed:
Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community; Educate students on safety protocols and ensure compliance; Monitor and report student behavior in accordance with established policies; Interpret and explain rules and regulations effectively; Exhibit tact and diplomacy in various situations; Comprehend roadway safety practices; Learn and execute assigned duties effectively; Manage cooperation from drivers at school crossings; Respond promptly and effectively in emergencies; Work independently with minimal supervision; Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish (preferred); Maintain simple records and reports; Follow directives diligently; Adapt to various work configurations; Adhere to safety practices; Meet established schedules and deadlines.

Experience and Education:

Any combination equivalent to:

High school graduation or GED required; experience working with children in organized settings is preferred; valid First Aid Certificate is necessary.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor traffic patterns, identifying safe moments to halt vehicles.
  • Ensure that vehicles are slowing down appropriately.
  • Once traffic is stopped, safely guide students across the street until they are secure.
  • Instruct students on safety measures and ensure adherence to precautions.
  • Report non-compliant students to the appropriate authorities.
  • Document and report any violations of school crossing regulations.
  • Alert authorities in emergency situations as needed.
  • Observe and report any suspicious activities near crossing areas.
  • Maintain simple records related to crossing guard activities.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, communicate effectively, and respond quickly to emergencies.

  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned.


Requirements:

Resume
Two letters of recommendation from previous supervisors/employers

Any combination equivalent to:
High school graduation or GED required
Fingerprint clearance and TB test are required upon hire
