Position Overview

Salary Range: $67,000 to $80,000

The Food Safety Quality Assurance Supervisor operates under the guidance of FSQA management to ensure adherence to Foster Farms, FSIS/USDA, and customer standards. This role oversees and implements the Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) initiatives and directly supervises hourly FSQA personnel at the processing facility. The supervisor is accountable for identifying and resolving food safety and quality challenges within the plant.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, oversee, and mentor hourly FSQA technicians in the monitoring, verification, and validation of food safety protocols, including HACCP, SSOP, and prerequisite programs, alongside Foster Farms corporate initiatives such as metal detection, allergen management, and pest control.
  • Monitor data and promptly address issues related to processing, sanitation, and maintenance through active involvement.
  • Communicate product quality or regulatory non-conformances to FSQA and operations management in a timely manner.
  • Authorized to place non-conforming products on FSQA hold if they fail to meet Foster Farms standards, customer expectations, or legal requirements. Collaborate with senior FSQA management to make decisions regarding product disposition, including release or disposal.
  • Engage with USDA/FSIS representatives to resolve regulatory non-compliance issues and provide necessary information. Support production management in establishing corrective and preventive actions in response to non-compliances.
  • Assist operations management in training new production staff to ensure proficiency in GMPs, food safety standards, and quality criteria.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of current FSQA programs, adjusting them to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Maintain FSQA data reporting systems, communicating trends and root-cause analyses to management for issue resolution and process enhancement.
  • Actively participate in projects and initiatives aimed at modifying, retrofitting, and improving performance from a food safety and quality perspective.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred (ideally in Food Science, Meat/Animal Science, or a related scientific field).
  • Prior experience in food processing, food safety, and/or quality assurance programs is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with HACCP, SSOP programs, and/or FSIS food safety regulations is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills; experience with Statistical Process Control is a plus.
  • Excellent writing and presentation abilities.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is beneficial, depending on the local workforce.
  • Ability to independently make product disposition decisions under the guidance of FSQA management.
  • Sound judgment regarding food safety risks and product quality defects.
  • Capability to coach and develop hourly employees; prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to travel for limited business-related visits or conferences.
