Position Overview

Salary Range: $67,000 to $80,000

The Food Safety Quality Assurance Supervisor operates under the guidance of FSQA management to ensure adherence to Foster Farms, FSIS/USDA, and client standards.

In this role, you will oversee and implement the Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) initiatives. You will directly supervise and mentor hourly FSQA personnel at the processing facility, addressing and resolving food safety and quality challenges as they arise.

Key Responsibilities:


- Recruit, manage, and train hourly FSQA technicians in monitoring, verifying, and validating food safety protocols such as HACCP, SSOP, and other essential programs, including metal detection and allergen control.

- Monitor data and promptly address issues related to processing, sanitation, and maintenance through active involvement. Communicate any non-conformances regarding product quality or regulatory compliance to FSQA and operations management without delay.

- You will have the authority to place non-conforming products on FSQA hold if they fail to meet Foster Farms standards, customer expectations, or legal requirements.

- Collaborate with senior FSQA management to make informed decisions regarding product disposition, including whether to release or dispose of products.

- Engage with USDA/FSIS representatives to resolve regulatory non-compliance issues and respond to information requests.

- Provide written and verbal communication support to the production management team to establish corrective and preventive measures in response to non-compliances.

- Assist operations management in training new production staff to ensure their understanding of GMPs, food safety regulations, and quality standards.

- Contribute to the development and maintenance of current FSQA programs, adjusting them as necessary to comply with regulatory and internal standards.
- Maintain FSQA data reporting systems, sharing trends and root-cause analyses with management for issue resolution and process enhancement.

- Actively participate in projects (FSQA or operations) aimed at modifying, retrofitting, and improving performance from a food safety and quality perspective.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree preferred (ideally in Food Science, Meat/Animal Science, or a related scientific discipline).

- Previous experience in food processing, food safety, and/or quality assurance programs is advantageous.- Familiarity with HACCP, SSOP programs, and/or FSIS food safety regulations is preferred.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills; experience with Statistical Process Control is a plus.
- Excellent writing and presentation abilities.
- Bilingual in Spanish is beneficial, depending on the local hourly workforce.
- Capable of making independent product disposition decisions under the guidance of FSQA management.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment regarding food safety risks and product quality defects.
- Experience in coaching and developing hourly employees; prior supervisory experience is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to work flexible hours.

- Ability to travel for limited business-related visits or conferences.
