Position Overview:
INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE I
JOB SUMMARY
The Instructional Aide I will work under the guidance of site administrators and certified educators to perform various essential tasks aimed at supporting the development and execution of effective educational programs for children.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Knowledge:
Understanding of district policies and procedures; Proficiency in operating various office equipment; Familiarity with basic record-keeping methods; Command of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; Strong oral and written communication skills; Interpersonal skills characterized by tact, patience, and courtesy; Principles of child development; Relevant sections of the State Education Code and applicable laws.
Skills:
Ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community; Perform basic arithmetic calculations accurately; Execute routine clerical tasks such as filing, duplication, and record maintenance; Monitor and report on student behavior in accordance with established policies; Assist in instructional activities within a classroom or designated learning space; Interpret and apply rules and regulations effectively; Compile and maintain comprehensive records and reports; Operate instructional and office equipment as instructed; Support certified staff with assigned educational tasks; Verify document accuracy and completeness; Learn the procedures and limitations of assigned responsibilities; Follow both oral and written instructions; Communicate effectively in both spoken and written forms; Spanish language skills are a plus; Meet deadlines and schedules; Organize and plan work efficiently; Write and print legibly; Maintain confidentiality.
Experience and Education:
Any combination equivalent to: possession of an Associate of Arts degree and/or completion of sixty (60) semester units of college/university coursework; one (1) year of experience working with children or youth in a structured environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks independently; Interpret and apply relevant rules and regulations; Adhere to district and school guidelines to ensure student health, safety, and well-being.
- Provide tutoring for individuals or small groups, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher; Assist with individual learning activities as requested; Support students in practicing and studying concepts following instructional presentations.
INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE I
Burton School District
- Execute lessons and lesson plans initiated by the teacher; Apply instructional strategies developed by the teacher; Review and reinforce learning activities initiated by the teacher to help students master academic concepts and skills.
- Under teacher supervision, assess student needs and progress; Administer and score various assessments according to established guidelines.
- Implement student behavior policies as directed by certified staff; Monitor and report student behavior according to approved procedures; Utilize effective methods to address verbal outbursts and other forms of resistance; Correct student behavior as instructed by certified staff; Enforce school and classroom rules.
- Assist in preparing and duplicating educational materials; Collect, organize, and file instructional resources; Perform routine clerical duties and maintain records such as attendance reports and correcting student work; Operate audio-visual equipment; Set up work areas and prepare bulletin boards and displays; Assist in organizing, monitoring, and cleaning program facilities.
- Supervise student activities in the classroom, playground, and other school areas; Accompany students to transportation.
- May assist students, certified staff, and/or parents with communication challenges due to limited English proficiency.
- Participate in meetings and training programs as assigned; Support volunteers with assigned activities.
- Serve as a role model, providing students with proper examples, emotional support, a friendly demeanor, and general guidance.
