About the Role

Amentum is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team in a dynamic and challenging role. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key part in supporting the Hawthorne Army Depot, working closely with customers at all levels to deliver high-quality design and engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a range of design development, analysis, and review tasks under some supervision, utilizing your technical expertise to drive project success.
  • Confer with customers and supervisors to determine project details, including scope of work, timing, and phasing requirements.
  • Assess customer needs and analyze proposed site factors to scope work and prepare concept design strategies.
  • Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates for design projects, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Direct inspectors in construction management activities, solving construction issues as they arise and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Develop engineering standards for installation facilities construction, championing quality and excellence in all aspects of the project.
  • Evaluate plans and criteria, completing special analyses to support engineering efforts and providing technical expertise on a variety of engineering activities.
  • Develop plans for the installation of systems, utilization of facilities, or construction of structures that meet programmed scope and costs.
  • Draft and supervise the drafting of detailed plans and construction documents, ensuring compliance with drawing standards and preparing detailed statements of work for construction projects.
  • Determine material quantities, labor requirements, and other factors, using this information to prepare detailed and accurate projections of construction costs.
  • Lead or participate in multi-discipline projects, collaborating with other designers to deliver high-quality results.
  • Participate in contract solicitation, bid review, award, and pre-work activities, ensuring contract documents are prepared, executed, and delivered promptly.
  • Review contract submittals for compliance with contract specifications, inspecting project sites and evaluating contractor compliance with contract requirements.
  • Oversee activities of project inspectors to ensure regular and accurate daily inspection of contractor work.
  • Assure complete and appropriate project closeout, including fiscal closeout, as-built and record drawing completion, and other essential tasks.
  • Investigate existing conditions of structures or systems to assess their adequacy and suitability for use, conducting testing and analyses as needed.
  • Prepare reports and document project activities and data, ensuring accurate and timely communication with stakeholders.
  • Design a portion or section of an analysis or design review, generating sections of design specifications for complex projects.
  • Prepare, deliver, and submit technical presentations for in-process design and review meetings, establishing and maintaining a filing system or databases as needed.
  • Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications, directing interface and liaison with customers at all levels.
  • Conduct site visits and investigate engineering problems, proposing solutions and alternatives, and providing recommendations.
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures, performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline.
  • Three (3) years of professional technical experience, including at least one (1) year of specialized experience performing mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering.
  • SOLIDWORKS, Inventor, 3D CAD, and Weapons System experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with some applicable design experience required.
  • Possess analytical abilities necessary to handle complex administrative, organizational, and contract matters.
  • Have a basic knowledge of computers, able to input and extract data, prepare briefings, and transmit documents.
  • Possess excellent oral, written, and communication skills, able to address a variety of audiences.
  • Able to give attention to detail and execute on multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to deal with customers and company employees in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.
  • Valid State Driver's License required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
