Position Overview:
This role is a vital leadership position within the second line of defense, overseeing frontline risk-taking activities.
The responsibilities include managing the Operations divisions that support various banking services, Wealth Management, and other independent subsidiaries of the organization.
The position entails designing and executing the implementation of Three Lines of Defense programs in accordance with regulatory expectations for elevated standards.
The Senior Operational Risk Executive will ensure effective risk management and compliance throughout the organization, enhancing the overall risk framework and fostering a culture of risk awareness and accountability.
Primary Responsibilities:
Develops and leads the implementation of risk management practices for Elevated Standards across the three lines of defense.
Oversees the operational risk management framework, ensuring its sustainability and integration across the first and second lines of defense.
Gains a comprehensive understanding of processes, identifies risks, assesses the design and effectiveness of risk controls, and escalates concerns regarding risk controls as necessary.
Reviews and challenges frontline change initiatives, issues, corrective actions, operational risk events (losses and near misses), risk policies, risk procedures, and risk metrics while leading the risk and control self-assessment (RCSA) program.
Acts as a liaison for frontline business and control managers across the operations functions of the organization for situations requiring second line operational risk expertise and escalation.
Conducts targeted risk reviews of emerging risks or areas of concern, including oversight of the issues management program.
Utilizes second line of defense subject matter experts to challenge and advise the frontline on various operational risk types, including project and business change initiatives, business continuity, payments, external fraud, information risk management, safety and physical security, transaction processing and execution, and third-party risk management.
Supports reporting needs for the Board and Management Committee, providing regular updates on the operational risk profile, key operational risks, issues, and initiatives.
Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.All employees are responsible for serving as risk managers for their businesses by understanding, reporting, responding to, managing, and monitoring the risks they encounter daily as required by the organization's risk management program.
