Floor Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

The Floor Maintenance Technician will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in all floor areas. This includes removing spots from carpets, performing bonnet and extraction carpet cleaning, disposing of trash, and assisting with hazardous waste collection. The ideal candidate will operate floor sweepers, buffers, strippers, canister vacuum cleaners, and shop vacuums, and wear adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with chemicals and equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Perform floor work and carpet care duties, including cleaning offices, hallways, common areas, and other areas.
  • Move furniture before and after cleaning.
  • Clean, dust, mop, strip, buff, shampoo, and wax floors.
  • Measure chemicals correctly.
  • Operate chemical dispensing units.
  • Label chemicals correctly.
  • Clean, maintain, and store equipment and PPE proficiently.
  • Keep an inventory of floor areas and schedule cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Report and log maintenance issues to supervisor.
  • Assist with hazardous waste collection as per safety guidelines.
  • Attend and complete regular trainings (i.e., compliance, safety).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of basic janitorial duties and responsibilities is highly desirable.
  • Good listening and verbal communication skills are required, with the ability to interact with clients and the public.
  • Some positions require the ability to speak/understand English.
  • The ability to understand and anticipate the needs of clients is essential.
  • A neat appearance is required, with a uniform provided at some worksites.
  • Punctuality is essential.

Education and Work Experience

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
  • 6+ months of experience in commercial facilities and building janitorial work is desired.

Work Environment

  • The work environment will be fast-paced and dynamic, with a moderate noise level.
  • The employee will be exposed to a combination of normal office type environments and shop environments.
  • The employee will regularly be exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, cleaning products, and noise.

Physical Demands

  • The employee will be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, or hear.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move a minimum of 40 pounds of office and facilities equipment (cleaning products, tools, and ladders) and trash.
  • The employee must be able to safely use equipment provided.
