Responsibilities of the Middle School Special Education Instructor include:
  • Fostering a dynamic, engaging, and inclusive classroom atmosphere where all students are motivated to learn.
  • Adapting instruction to cater to diverse learning needs, enhancing sensory and perceptual motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
  • Designing, modifying, and executing curriculum and assessments tailored for students with disabilities as outlined in their IEPs and/or 504 plans.
  • Implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as necessary.
  • Driving academic success for all students by analyzing data, personalizing instruction, and addressing each learner's unique requirements.
  • Contributing to the Child Study Team's evaluations of student needs.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to implement an effective integrated co-teaching model that serves all students in an inclusive environment.
  • Inspiring students and fellow educators to reach their highest potential.
  • Building and maintaining strong, professional relationships with families.
Qualifications for the Middle School Special Education Instructor position include:

• Valid NYS or equivalent Special Education Teaching Certification.

• Experience in urban elementary education.

• Background in teaching grades 5-8.

• Proven track record of enhancing achievement levels for all students.

• A steadfast belief in the potential of all students to achieve high standards.

• Demonstrated commitment and success in working with students and their families.

• Ability to thrive in a startup environment.

• Capacity to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic educational setting.

• A sense of humor and kindness towards colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced proficiency in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

• Bilingual (Spanish).

• Music performance experience.

• Teaching experience and/or relevant certifications.

• Familiarity with Project-Based Learning and Inquiry-Based Learning methodologies.

• Knowledge of Responsive Classroom, Love & Logic Student Management, and Restorative Justice Models.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary ranges from $62,000 to $100,000 based on experience. WHIN Music Community Charter School provides a competitive salary and benefits package, along with a supportive and professional work environment, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
