Responsibilities of the Middle School Special Education Instructor include:
- Establishing and sustaining an engaging, inclusive classroom environment that inspires a love for learning.
- Adapting instructional methods to cater to diverse learner needs, enhancing sensory and perceptual motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
- Designing, modifying, and executing curricula and assessments tailored for students with disabilities, as outlined in their IEPs or 504 plans.
- Implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as necessary.
- Driving academic success for all students through data analysis, differentiated instruction, and individualized support.
- Contributing to the Child Study Team's evaluations of student requirements.
- Collaborating with colleagues to effectively implement an integrated co-teaching model within an inclusive classroom.
- Motivating students and fellow staff to reach their highest potential.
- Building and maintaining strong, professional relationships with families.
Qualifications for the Middle School Special Education Instructor role:
• Valid NYS or equivalent Special Education Teaching Certification
• Experience in urban elementary education
• Proven experience teaching grades 5-8
• Demonstrated success in elevating achievement levels among all students
• A steadfast belief in the potential of all students to excel
• A strong commitment to working effectively with students and their families
• Ability to adapt and thrive in a startup educational environment
• Capacity to excel in a dynamic and fast-paced school setting
• A sense of humor and kindness towards colleagues
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bilingual proficiency (Spanish)
• Background in music performance
• Teaching experience and/or relevant certifications
• Familiarity with Project-Based Learning and Inquiry-Based Learning methodologies
• Knowledge of Responsive Classroom, Love & Logic Student Management, and Restorative Justice models
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary range: $62,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience. WHIN Music Community Charter School provides a competitive salary and benefits package, a vibrant and professional work environment, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
