Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Preschool Early Intervention Special Education Teacher to join our team at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. As a member of our team, you will play a critical role in evaluating and delivering special education services to young children in our Preschool Early Intervention early intervention classrooms.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Evaluate and assess the needs of preschool-age children to identify their individual needs and develop appropriate IEPs.
  2. Develop and implement specially designed instruction to meet the needs of children with special needs, incorporating the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards for Pre-K.
  3. Collaborate with parents, guardians, and other professionals to ensure the continued implementation of specially designed instruction.
  4. Provide instruction to individuals, small groups, and large groups, including typically developing peers.
  5. Evaluate and monitor student progress, using assessments, data collection, and observation to inform instruction.
  6. Collaborate with other personnel and consultants to implement specially designed instruction and meet the needs of all students.
  7. Effectively communicate with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to provide support and guidance.
  8. Accommodate families who are observing and/or inquiring about possible placement.
  9. Prepare duties and provide guidance for paraprofessionals related to duties within the classroom and with working with children.
  10. Coordinate the transition process for children preparing to enter kindergarten programs.
Requirements
  • Valid PA certification in Special Education PK-8/PK-12 required.
  • Valid PA certification in Early Childhood PK-4 preferred.
  • Experience working with the preschool population in Early Childhood Environments preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust and positive working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, while remaining logical and interpersonal.
  • Excellent collaboration and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible.
  • Ability to travel throughout the County required.
  • Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy.
