Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for evaluating and delivering special education services to young children in Preschool Early Intervention early intervention classrooms.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Evaluate and assess the needs of preschool-age children to identify their individual needs and develop appropriate IEPs.
  2. Develop and implement specially designed instruction to meet the needs of children with special needs, incorporating the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards for Pre-K.
  3. Collaborate with parents, guardians, and other professionals to provide support and ensure the continued implementation of specially designed instruction.
  4. Monitor and evaluate student progress, making data-driven decisions to inform instruction and make adjustments as needed.
  5. Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and supportive environment for children with special needs.
  6. Stay up-to-date with best practices and research in special education, incorporating new ideas and strategies into your teaching practice.
Requirements
  • Valid PA certification in Special Education PK-8/PK-12 required.
  • Valid PA certification in Early Childhood PK-4 preferred.
  • Experience working with preschool populations in early childhood environments preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust and positive working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues, while remaining logical and interpersonal.
  • Excellent collaboration and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible.
  • Ability to travel throughout the County required.
  • Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy.
