The Allegheny Intermediate Unit is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Paraprofessional to join our team in the Preschool Early Intervention program. As a Paraprofessional, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and therapeutic needs of young children with special needs.
Key Responsibilities- Assist children with daily living skills, such as toileting, dressing, and feeding, as needed.
- Provide one-on-one support to eligible young children in early childhood settings, including preschool, Head Start, and childcare.
- Assist with instructional tasks, such as preparing materials, operating equipment, and maintaining a safe and organized learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with children, teachers, therapists, and supervisors to ensure seamless support and collaboration.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Travel between assignments as needed, using a base location for travel reimbursement.
- Associate degree or equivalent number of college credits (60) or a PATTAN Paraeducator Certificate required.
- 1-2 years' experience working with children with special needs strongly preferred.
- Training in crisis intervention, CPR, and First Aid preferred.
- Ability to work as part of the educational team and communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to prioritize identified needs of students.
The physical demands of this role include sitting, standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The ability to speak clearly and distinctly, hear clearly, and have adequate vision to perform duties is also required.
