POSITION: Full-time faculty role with rank; tenure track; 9-month appointment in the School of Humanities, Religion, and Social Sciences.

OVERVIEW:

The Biblical and Theological Studies program is dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge and passion to engage with the Scriptures as foundational to their faith and life. This program fosters dialogue with Anabaptist-Mennonite and Evangelical traditions, as well as the broader Christian community and society at large. Our aim is to cultivate an appreciation for the vastness of the Kingdom of God, embracing diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and faith traditions.

All students at Fresno Pacific University are required to complete two courses in Biblical Studies, designed to offer both academic and practical learning experiences within the university's General Education framework. The curriculum emphasizes the development of skills necessary for interpreting the Bible within its literary and historical contexts, as well as in a contemporary educational environment, irrespective of the students' personal beliefs. Our interactive learning approach encourages students to transition from mere knowledge to active engagement and application in their lives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver 24 units per academic year in assigned courses within the Biblical & Theological Studies program, including core courses such as BIB-100/300/314 Jesus & the Christian Community, along with General Education Biblical Literature and Perspectives courses.
  • Engage in departmental, campus, and community service initiatives.
  • Maintain an active research agenda.
  • Collaborate with fellow faculty members to ensure the program's excellence.
  • Advise undergraduate students pursuing majors or minors in Biblical & Theological Studies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Terminal degree in biblical studies or a related discipline (candidates nearing completion of their degree may also be considered).
  • Demonstrated or potential scholarly contributions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capacity to navigate cultural differences and promote diversity.
  • Ability to integrate Christian faith with the field of biblical studies.
  • Experience or aptitude for teaching at the college level to both traditional and adult learners.
  • Willingness to travel between campuses as needed.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, administration, and students in a liberal arts and sciences-focused regional university.
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and the university's mission of Christ-centered education and community involvement.

Preferred:

  • Commitment to Anabaptist theological perspectives.
  • Expertise in Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) with consideration for New Testament specialization.
  • Bilingual proficiency, ideally in Spanish and English.

COMPENSATION: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, distributed over 12 months. Full-time benefits include medical, vision, dental insurance, retirement options, and more.
