Biblical Studies Faculty Position

OVERVIEW
The Biblical and Theological Studies program is dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge and skills to engage with the Scriptures as foundational to their faith and life. This program fosters dialogue with the Anabaptist-Mennonite and Evangelical traditions, as well as the broader Christian community and society at large. It aims to cultivate an appreciation for the diversity within the Kingdom of God, embracing various backgrounds, perspectives, and religious affiliations. All students at Fresno Pacific University are required to complete two courses in Biblical Studies, designed to enhance both academic understanding and practical application within the vibrant community of Fresno Pacific University's General Education curriculum. These courses focus on developing skills for interpreting the Bible in its literary and historical contexts, as well as within a contemporary educational environment, irrespective of the students' personal beliefs. The interactive learning approach encourages students to transition from mere knowledge to active engagement and embodiment of their learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver 24 units per academic year in the Biblical & Theological Studies program, focusing on courses such as BIB-100/300/314 Jesus & the Christian Community, and General Education Biblical Literature and Perspectives courses.
- Engage in departmental, campus, and community service activities.
- Maintain an active research agenda.
- Collaborate with fellow faculty members to ensure high-quality program delivery.
- Provide academic advising to undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Biblical & Theological Studies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Terminal degree in biblical studies or a related discipline (candidates nearing completion of their terminal degree may also be considered);
- Demonstrated scholarly achievement or potential;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to navigate cultural differences and promote diversity;
- Capacity to integrate Christian faith with the discipline of biblical studies;
- Experience or aptitude for teaching at the college level to both traditional and adult learners;
- Willingness to travel between campuses as needed;
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, administration, and students in a liberal arts and sciences environment;
- Commitment to the Christian faith and the mission of Christ-centered education.
Preferred:
- Commitment to Anabaptist theological perspectives;
- Expertise in Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) with consideration for New Testament specialization;
- Bilingual capabilities, particularly in Spanish and English.

COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, distributed over 12 months. Full-time benefits include medical, vision, dental insurance, long-term disability, retirement options, and more.
