Position Overview:

This role as an Archaeological Project Specialist involves a full-time commitment. The individual will engage in both office-based and field-oriented tasks. The specialist will collaborate with the Principal Investigator and clients of Providence Engineering and Environmental Group LLC on a diverse range of projects. Responsibilities will encompass aiding in the development of research proposals, site documentation, and reports, conducting archaeological oversight, site assessments, pedestrian and subsurface surveys, data gathering and entry, laboratory evaluations, and other designated assignments.

Essential Qualifications:

  • M.A./M.S. degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related discipline.
  • Must satisfy the Secretary of Interior's professional qualifications criteria for archaeology and be an RPA or eligible for RPA status.
  • A minimum of three years of archaeological field experience with a recognized cultural resources firm, particularly in the Southeastern United States, is required. Preference will be given to candidates with five years of professional archaeological field experience in Louisiana and/or the lower Mississippi Valley region.
  • Experience in supervising teams and/or multiple crews across various project types, sizes, regions, and agencies.
  • Proficient in operating GPS devices and navigating using USGS maps.
  • Familiarity with artifact identification of both prehistoric and historic materials relevant to the Southeastern United States.
  • Experience in report writing as the lead author or contributor.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and an insurable driving record is essential.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Principal Investigator and senior staff in planning archaeological field projects, which may include monitoring surveys, subsurface investigations, evaluations, and data recovery efforts.
  • Supervise fieldwork for Phase I, II, and III investigations, along with the associated laboratory artifact cataloging, preservation, and analysis of materials recovered during these investigations.
  • May be required to oversee multiple field crews simultaneously.
  • Conduct preliminary research, contribute to technical reports, complete site documentation, or prepare concise reports.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, policies, and procedures.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
  • Willingness to travel frequently and on short notice.
  • Ability to travel overnight for extended durations.
  • Capability to walk long distances and perform activities such as bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, digging, and similar tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and on diverse terrains, sometimes for prolonged periods.
