Position Overview:

This recruitment aims to create an 18-month eligibility list to address current and future openings for Forensic Analysts with a focus on DNA analysis. Please note that recruitment may conclude without prior notice.

The role involves employing chemical, microscopic, chromatographic, and comparative methodologies and tools to scrutinize, identify, and assess physical evidence, which may encompass: controlled substances; blood, urine, and other biological samples; firearms; questioned documents; latent fingerprints; trace evidence; and various items of evidentiary significance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compile technical reports and deliver expert testimony in judicial settings.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to fellow forensic analysts.
  • Advise on enhancements to analytical procedures and the acquisition of scientific apparatus.
  • Engage in related tasks as necessary, under the supervision of a Senior Forensic Analyst.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in biology, chemistry, or a closely related field, with either a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in chemistry or a minimum of twenty (20) semester hours of chemistry along with completed coursework in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry. A minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a forensic analyst in a recognized crime laboratory is required, demonstrating proficiency in at least one forensic specialty and experience in court or professional presentations relevant to forensics.

Additional forensic analyst experience beyond the required seven (7) years may be considered in lieu of chemistry semester hours (one (1) year of additional forensic experience equates to ten (10) chemistry semester hours).

Working Conditions:

Exposure to fumes, dust, bodily fluids, toxic or caustic substances, or materials that may transmit infectious diseases (e.g., AIDS, Hepatitis B) is possible. The role may require lifting items weighing up to twenty (20) pounds and responding to crime scenes and court appearances as necessary.

Additional Requirements:

Applicants must submit to an examination process, including a polygraph and background investigation. The Arizona Department of Public Safety maintains a drug-free workplace through pre-employment drug testing.

If driving or vehicle use is essential for conducting State business, specific driver's license requirements will apply. All newly hired State employees must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
