Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Superintendent to join our team at Carrix, Inc./SSA Marine, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of equipment operated by the company, including equipment owned or leased by the company and/or equipment owned or leased by third parties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Direct Maintenance Programs: Assist in developing and directing the maintenance programs for equipment and technicians.
  • Maintenance Supervision: Supervise and direct the mechanical maintenance of all Terminal equipment, including comprehensive preventative maintenance.
  • Safety and Employee Safeguarding: Ensure all Terminal equipment mechanical safety and employee safeguarding.
  • Representative Role: Represent the Maintenance Department at internal and external safety meetings as required by Management.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Design and assume responsibility for all maintenance of equipment under supervision.
  • Personnel Management: May assist with hiring, discipline, and termination of all maintenance personnel.
  • Collaboration: Work with all departments to reach operational objectives.
  • Equipment Specifications: Provide input to the company regarding specifications of operational equipment.
  • Vendor Management: Meet regularly with vendors to secure supply and cost objectives.
  • Maintenance Cost Control: Evaluate and control all maintenance costs.
  • Maintenance Program Evaluation: Evaluate maintenance programs to ensure they are accomplishing intended objectives.
  • Training and Development: Provide training of maintenance personnel to improve performance and skills.
  • Safety and Training: Stress workplace safety and training and participation in safety programs.
  • Company Policies: Communicate company policies to all maintenance personnel.
  • Equipment Acquisition: Participate in the acquisition of new or replacement equipment and disposition of used equipment.
  • Technology Evaluation: Be familiar with computer control, management, and diagnostic programs used on equipment under supervision.
  • Continuous Improvement: Constantly evaluate new technology as it is applied to equipment utilized by the company.
Requirements
  • Education: Two (2) year AA degree or equivalent experience working in maintenance and management.
  • Experience: 10 years' experience in a related industry.
  • Leadership Skills: 5 years managing related union labor.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Journeyman's License as a Millwright preferred. Valid CPR certificate required. Must have valid DL.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Thorough knowledge or principles of terminal operations. Proven leadership skills. Experience with computerized operating systems. Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations. Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability strongly desired. Knowledge of local unions dispatching rules.
