About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cemetery Maintenance Manager to join our team at Service Corporation International. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing the maintenance and development of multiple cemeteries, ensuring that our properties are well-maintained and meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cemetery Maintenance
    • Oversee the operations of multiple cemeteries, establishing and communicating work, quality, and safety expectations to ensure that cemetery services exceed customer expectations.
    • Coordinate staff work and time-off schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and minimize overtime.
  • Grounds Keeping and Landscaping
    • Manage grounds keeping, landscaping, and seasonal plantings to present a welcoming and manicured appearance of properties.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and wildlife regulations.
  • Inventory Management and Procurement
    • Source and select vendors, procure, store, and maintain sufficient inventory of tools, materials, equipment, and lawn treatment.
    • Review and approve invoices for payment.
  • Project Management
    • Manage new construction projects, including obtaining drawings, preparing budgets, and selecting vendors.
    • Collaborate with the home office on capital expenditure projects, understanding timeline, resources, responsibilities, and managing activity and noise in consideration of cemetery services.
  • Financial Management
    • Develop annual operating budgets, personnel budgets, and management expenses to achieve budget.
    • Plan for equipment replacement.

People Development

  • Develop a strong, trusting, and reliable team, understanding team members' career aspirations and providing assignments to develop skills and close gaps.
  • Constructively address issues and provide timely, appropriate feedback.
  • Apply a proactive and collaborative management style to increase employee engagement and minimize turnover.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least eight (8) years of cemetery maintenance experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • At least two (2) years of supervising and managing staff.
  • Environmental regulatory compliance experience.
  • New Construction/capital expenditure developmental experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of environmental regulations as applicable to the industry.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of wildlife regulations as applicable to the industry.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of staff and public safety regulations as applicable to the industry.
