About the Position

As a seasoned Mechanic/Welder, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing municipal equipment, including electric, diesel, and gasoline trucks, as well as other departmental vehicles. This critical work ensures that our city's operations run smoothly and efficiently.

In this key role, you will utilize your technical skills to diagnose and resolve complex issues with engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and more. Your welding expertise will also play a vital part in fabricating custom attachments and components for various city projects.

Responsibilities
  1. Conduct thorough inspections of equipment to identify potential problems and develop effective maintenance plans.
  2. Perform routine repairs and overhauls on vehicles, including engine replacements and transmission work.
  3. Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to prevent costly downtime.
  4. Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless workflow and efficient problem-solving.
  5. Maintain accurate records of work completed and parts used.
Requirements

To succeed in this position, you will need:

  • At least 3 years of experience in auto/truck repair and maintenance.
  • 1 year of skilled metal, gas, and electric welding fabrication experience.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Possession of a Class B Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License with Air Brake Endorsement or CDL Class B permit upon hire.
  • Possession of a Mass Hoisting Operator 2B License or ability to obtain within the probationary period.

Compensation

The estimated salary for this position is $62,509 - $70,895 per year (based on a 40-hour workweek), making it a highly competitive offering for skilled professionals in the area.
