Economic Development Specialist

The City of Medford seeks a highly skilled Economic Development Planner to join our team. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $59,904 - $69,783 per year.
Job SummaryThis role is responsible for collaborating closely with the Director of Economic Development on city management initiatives. The successful candidate will lead efforts to support the economic development, recovery, and resilience of the small business community in Medford. Key responsibilities include:
- Serving as a principal point of contact for small businesses needing assistance with city processes, programs, or regulations.
- Managing communications promoting resources to support business recovery and resiliency, such as business guides, financial programs, and technical support.
- Developing and maintaining small business programming designed to support resiliency, including facade improvement programs, outdoor dining initiatives, and educational programming.
- Evaluating economic, statistical, and demographic data to analyze the best means to attract, retain, or expand businesses within the City.
- Coordinating activities and/or resolutions of problems/complaints through federal, state, or local government agencies.
- Supporting the department with business and development attraction efforts.
- Gathering and analyzing information regarding existing businesses within the community for the purpose of economic planning studies and program development.
- Supporting grant programs through processing risk assessments, monitoring recipients, reporting economic impact, and maintaining data files.
- Contribute to land-use planning initiatives and projects related to housing, sustainability, and transportation.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in economics, planning, business, public administration, or a closely related field, and at least two years of planning-related experience. A master's degree and prior experience with programs of workforce development, redevelopment, downtown initiatives, and business retention and expansion principles are preferred.
