Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Municipal Attorney to lead our Law Department in Medford, Massachusetts.
About the RoleWe are looking for a seasoned attorney with over 10 years of experience in municipal law practice, preferably at a partner level. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctor degree and be a member in good standing with the States Bar of Massachusetts.
The Senior Municipal Attorney will oversee the provision of legal services to the City of Medford, the Mayor, City Council, and all City departments, boards, and commissions. This role requires exceptional leadership and management skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication abilities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting legal research, drafting opinions, managing litigation cases, reviewing and negotiating contracts, and advising on labor contracts. They will also serve as the City's official Keeper of Record and Records Access Officer.
This is a senior-level position that requires extensive judgment and ingenuity to develop new or adapt existing methods and approaches for accomplishing objectives.
Responsibilities- Lead the Law Department and provide strategic guidance on all legal matters affecting the City of Medford.
- Develop and implement effective legal strategies to protect the City's interests.
- Conduct legal research and provide expert opinions on complex legal issues.
- Manage and supervise a team of attorneys and staff.
- Maintain accurate records and files.
- Juris Doctor degree and over 10 years of experience in municipal law practice.
- Member in good standing with the States Bar of Massachusetts.
- Excellent leadership, management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with confidential information.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
We offer a competitive salary range of $138,648.89-$159,911.44 annually, commensurate with experience.
