Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Engineer to join our team at the Naval Sea Systems Command. As an Engineering Manager in the Materials Division, you will play a critical role in supporting the work of the Fuels and Lubes Technical Warrant Holder.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Command's execution of technical authority in the area of fuels and lubricants across the Fleet.
  • Represent the Fuels and Lubricants Technical Warrant Holder and may be assigned signature authority as appropriate.
  • Effectively and efficiently adjudicate deviations from specifications for fuels and lubricants technology used in the operation of ships and submarines.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments related to fuels and lubricants and conduct cost reduction efforts to support improved affordability in shipbuilding and repair.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage various phases of work being accomplished by technical specialists.
  • Support the Fuels and Lube TWH in providing national stewardship for fuels and lubricants used in ship and submarine operations.
  • Apply design, construction, and maintenance information in development and management of Research and Development programs for fuels and lubricants.
  • Develop and recommend approval of ship requirements, policies, specifications, systems design, engineering analyses, research and development requirements, audit requirements, and verification processes and procedures.

Requirements:

  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the pay band NH-03 (GS-13 equivalent) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer leading studies for materials analysis (e.g. fuels and lubricants) and design of ships or submarines to improve cost, performance and safety.

Education:

  • Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • OR Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
