Position Overview

PIRE is actively seeking experienced Senior Research Investigators to join our Prevention Research Center located in the San Francisco Bay Area. This opportunity is designed for senior-level researchers or small teams capable of making significant contributions to PIRE's research initiatives in alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, as well as health policy.

Qualifications

We invite applications from senior-level researchers who possess:

  • Current or recent funding from recognized research agencies,
  • A strong publication record in high-impact journals, and
  • Proven skills in collaborative research and project management.
Successful candidates will be expected to pursue independent research while collaborating with fellow PIRE scientists on shared interests. PIRE is prepared to assist researchers in securing funding, providing administrative support, and fostering collaborative scientific efforts. Employment is contingent upon successful funding acquisition.

PIRE operates as a self-funded research organization, emphasizing the importance of independence and the responsibility of securing one's own funding. Interested candidates should submit their resumes along with a brief overview of their research interests and potential funding sources.

Research Focus

Our diverse research portfolio examines the impacts of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use on public health and safety. Funding for this work is sourced from various agencies and foundations. We are particularly expanding our research in tobacco and drug-related areas, while remaining open to other research opportunities. Our scientists investigate risk factors and outcomes at both individual and structural levels, aiming to inform public policy and understand the effects of policies on health. Our methodologies encompass a wide range of qualitative and quantitative approaches, employing innovative sampling techniques.
