Position Overview

This role involves guiding and mentoring fellow employees in a leadership capacity, managing patient appointment scheduling, ensuring compliance with medical necessity, verifying eligibility, and processing payments.

Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 7 AM - 4:30 PM & Friday, 7 AM - 1 PM.

Essential Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: None required.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a healthcare or medical office environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong typing and keyboarding skills.
  • Preferred experience in supervisory or leadership roles.
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinates patient appointments and accurately inputs necessary information into the computer system in a timely manner.
  • Collects demographic, insurance, and financial details from patients or their guarantors, ensuring high accuracy in data entry.
  • Clearly explains all required documentation to patients or guarantors and secures necessary signatures.
  • Ensures compliance with medical necessity by gathering required data, reviewing compliance systems, and communicating essential information to patients or guarantors.
  • Safeguards the financial integrity of the facility by collecting patient liabilities, establishing payment plans, discussing payment options, and screening for eligibility. Completes complex financial counseling, including reviewing and submitting charity applications, and identifying alternative financial resources.
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits, ensuring all notifications and authorizations are completed promptly.
  • Records payments in the computer system and generates appropriate patient receipts.
  • Monitors, reviews, and resolves patient account issues as assigned, performing account analysis and trending.
  • Conducts quality reviews and identifies opportunities for process improvements.
  • Acts as a team leader within the department, ensuring daily tasks are completed, scheduling staff, providing answers to employee inquiries, and assisting with employee orientation and training.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with physicians, care management, ancillary departments, nursing units, physician office staff, insurance companies, as well as patients and their families, ensuring thorough and accurate documentation.
  • Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards while managing time, supplies, productivity, and service quality within budgetary constraints.
  • Promotes personal professional growth and development by fulfilling requirements for mandatory and continuing education, supporting department-based goals that contribute to the organization's success; serves as a mentor and resource for less experienced staff.
