Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer VAR will be tasked with investigating and analyzing vehicular incidents and mechanical failures. This role involves a thorough examination of vehicle systems, including brakes, steering, and engine components. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting detailed analyses of single and multiple vehicle collisions, including speed assessments and roadway factors.
  • Preparing and presenting visual aids such as diagrams and charts to illustrate findings.
  • Inspecting and evaluating automotive and mechanical components to determine failure origins.
  • Documenting evidence and compiling comprehensive reports of investigative findings.
  • Providing expert testimony in legal proceedings as required.
Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize engineering principles and CAE tools to reconstruct vehicular accidents.
  • Perform forensic mapping and evidence analysis at collision sites.
  • Assess vehicle damage and analyze factors such as occupant kinematics and braking efficiency.
  • Investigate product liability and safety concerns related to vehicle design.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is mandatory.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required.
  • A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience ranging from 2 to over 10 years in the field is essential.

  • Proven experience in vehicle accident reconstruction.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and independent judgment.
  • Capability to provide expert witness testimony.
  • Attention to detail during inspections and evaluations.
Physical and Travel Requirements

This position requires physical activity including standing, walking, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The role may involve local and regional travel, with occasional overnight stays.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is between $100,000 and $180,000, commensurate with education, experience, and certifications.
