Overview:
The Senior Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating and making informed decisions on various loan types, including FHA, VA, USDA, Jumbo, and conventional loans. This role requires an in-depth understanding of the mortgage process, various documentation, and compliance with agency and investor guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Review and assess loan file packages for accuracy and completeness, adhering to established guidelines and regulations within the specified time frame.
2. Validate all documentation submitted during the mortgage application process to ensure thoroughness and correctness.
3. Provide guidance to origination teams regarding underwriting inquiries and loan eligibility, while striving to meet closing timelines.
4. Analyze borrower information, including employment history, creditworthiness, property details, assets, liabilities, income, and debt to inform credit decisions.
5. Evaluate appraisal reports and address any collateral concerns to ensure compliance with required standards.
6. Maintain organized records by uploading and filing relevant documents into the imaging system.
7. Coordinate the ordering of mortgage insurance and necessary fraud prevention tools.
8. Conduct thorough audits of supporting documentation and complete necessary checklists prior to submitting for secondary review.
9. Identify underwriting challenges and recommend solutions to the loan production team that may affect pre-approval outcomes.
10. Communicate effectively with all relevant parties regarding loan decisions and requirements.
11. Review final conditions and either approve or deny them as per the designated authority, keeping branch personnel informed of the status.
12. Collaborate with processing teams to ensure all underwriting conditions are satisfied before issuing a Clear to Close approval or declining a loan.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; further education in mortgage banking or finance is advantageous.
- Minimum of 5 years in mortgage banking, with at least 3 years in underwriting preferred.
- Familiarity with VA, Conventional, FHA, USDA, Bond, Jumbo, and 203k loans, as well as complex tax returns.
- Active DE, LAPP, SAR, and USDA designations preferred for designated markets.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with Loan Origination Systems (LOS) is required; Encompass experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS) such as Desktop Underwriter, Loan Prospector, and GUS is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to make timely and accurate decisions independently, with sound judgment.
- Capability to review documents critically and identify inconsistencies or errors.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that often requires multitasking.
