Job Summary:

The Norfolk Public School District seeks a skilled Attendance Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring student attendance, dropout retrieval, and serving as the division's attendance officer.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the division's attendance officer and school representative to parents, students, and court officials concerning unexcused absences.
  • Schedules and facilitates attendance conferences with school staff, parents, and students concerning unexcused absences.
  • Reviews attendance guidelines with parents and students.
  • Inputs or retrieves attendance data from the student information system.
  • Generates truancy reports for school staff and administrators.
  • Reconciles and adjusts attendance data and follows standard protocols and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Prepares forms, attendance summaries, truancy reports, and other documents as required.
  • Communicates with parents or guardians to report or verify excused or unexcused absences.
  • Operates a computer and uses various software applications to complete assigned duties.
  • Explains and interprets applicable laws, regulations, and protocols to parents, guardians, and staff.
  • Presents lawful documentation to the Juvenile and Circuit Court System.
  • Files petitions against parents or guardians who are out of compliance with state attendance regulations.
  • Provides accurate and lawful documentation to Juvenile Courts.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information.
  • Monitors attendance and identifies habitual truancy.
  • Maintains punctual and consistent attendance.
  • Performs home visits for truant students.
  • Attends weekly prevention meetings with court and community professionals.
  • Works under the general supervision of a Senior Coordinator of Student Support Services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
