Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Specimen Management Technician to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for receiving and processing requests and specimens for analysis, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enter written and receive electronic orders for laboratory requests into the computer system, ensuring all specimens received meet acceptance criteria.
  • Operate the Pneumatic Tube System (PTS) to transport specimens efficiently.
  • Investigate and resolve problems or complaints related to specimen processing.
  • Process laboratory specimens according to established protocols.
  • Train and mentor new Specimen Management Technicians and healthcare professional students.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of quality, safety, and compliance programs.
  • Perform area-specific support activities as needed.

Physical Demands

The job requires sitting, standing for prolonged periods, frequent travel, and reaching overhead, extensively, and repetitively. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are necessary, as well as attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, heat, cold, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
