Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Invasive Species Specialist to join our team at the Virginia Department of Forestry. The successful candidate will play a critical role in mitigating the impact of invasive species in Central and Eastern Virginia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and survey forests for non-native species, coordinating treatment on public land
  • Develop and produce educational materials to raise awareness about invasive species
  • Provide assistance to communities and forest landowners in managing invasive species
  • Collaborate with state agencies, federal partners, and non-profit organizations to implement projects reducing the negative impact of invasive species
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Weed Science, or a related field
  • Knowledge of invasive species ecology and management
  • Ability to identify major non-native species in Virginia
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and ArcGIS mapping programs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience applying pesticides
  • Experience with ArcGIS mapping programs
