Position Summary
The Family Support and Education Program Coordinator plays a crucial role in creating a nurturing and educational atmosphere for families within the community. This full-time position is dedicated to the implementation and management of evidence-based parent education programs and workshops designed to equip parents and caregivers with essential skills and knowledge for effective parenting.

This role also encompasses providing multi-generational support services aimed at enhancing protective factors and empowering adults to positively influence child development and well-being. As a Family Support Specialist, the coordinator will offer guidance and resources to individuals, families, and relative caregivers, assisting them in navigating available services tailored to their specific needs.


Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and facilitate a diverse array of evidence-based parent education initiatives, workshops, and support groups that cater to the varied needs of families.
  • Organize and manage the scheduling of educational events, collaborating with various partners to ensure a wide range of topics are addressed.
  • Oversee educational materials and resources to enhance the effectiveness of parent education programs, staying updated on current research and best practices.
  • Foster partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and stakeholders to increase the visibility and accessibility of educational offerings.
  • Provide personalized support to parents seeking assistance, connecting them with relevant resources and services.
  • Identify and mitigate barriers to family engagement in educational programs, working with the community to address socio-economic and cultural challenges.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of program participation, feedback, and outcomes, generating reports to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends in parenting and child development, participating in professional development to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Core Functions - Family Support Specialist:
  • Conduct individual visits to families, providing tailored instruction, developing support plans, and delivering educational resources on child development.
  • Engage in coaching sessions with families to support their self-directed goals.
  • Maintain organized records for assigned families and provide necessary data for reporting purposes.
  • Connect with the community to identify and address the needs of Kinship caregivers.
  • Assist in creating customized Family Support Plans and facilitate access to various benefits and services.
  • Participate in community events and group facilitation.
  • Support organizational compliance with accreditation and licensing standards.
  • Stay updated on resources that may benefit program participants.

Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals and families in community settings.
  • Valid driver's license with appropriate registration and insurance.

  • Knowledge of community resources available for family assistance.
  • Capability to implement supports based on the Strengthening Families framework.
  • Understanding of family support standards and practices.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing files and timelines.

  • Familiarity with addiction recovery modalities and the ability to communicate various recovery pathways.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, demonstrating cultural sensitivity.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality and boundaries regarding sensitive information.
  • Successful completion of background checks prior to hiring.
  • Comfortable providing support in family homes in a nonjudgmental manner.
