Job Overview

The Manufacturing Welder plays a crucial role in utilizing semi-automatic welding equipment to assemble and create various components for production. This position requires the ability to produce high-quality weldments, executing welds ranging from 4" to 6" on both stainless and carbon steel materials in multiple orientations including flat, horizontal, and vertical.

  • Receives detailed instructions, schematics, and work orders for assigned tasks. Plans the specifics of the working process, including tools and material needs with minimal assistance.
  • Fabricates and assembles metal components by applying suitable welding techniques with minimal assistance.
  • Sets up and performs tack welds on parts, utilizing fixtures or jigs as necessary with minimal assistance.
  • Interprets blueprints of moderate complexity, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to ensure that products meet established quality standards.

  • Conducts inspections of completed welds to assess structural integrity and performs quality checks on finished work.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of the workspace and equipment, performs necessary preventive maintenance on machinery, and reports any discrepancies to the appropriate personnel until resolved.

  • Collaborates effectively with team members and assists in the training of others as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to pass AWS welder qualification tests within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Capability to weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.
  • Ability to complete welds in various joint configurations.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary; proficiency in using computer systems for information retrieval, timekeeping, and reporting work activities is preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is advantageous.
  • Basic blueprint reading skills are required.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure up to 1/16".
  • Strong math skills are essential; must be able to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in various units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibrations, and occasionally faces risks of electrical shock. Exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur. Employees are required to wear steel-toed shoes, gloves, and safety glasses. The noise level in the manufacturing environment is moderately loud. In addition to standard personal protective equipment, welders must wear a welding helmet and may be required to wear leather clothing and ear protection. Proper handling of hazardous waste in accordance with company policy is mandatory, and participation in annual hazardous waste training is required.
