Job Overview

Position Objective:

The Senior Patient Registration Coordinator is responsible for executing eligibility verification processes, gathering necessary documentation, and conducting financial evaluations for all patients accessing clinic services. This includes confirming eligibility for various funding programs, including those under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, as well as Medicaid and Medicare.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial and biannual eligibility assessments and financial evaluations for both new and returning clients.
  • Enroll qualified patients in suitable benefit programs.
  • Facilitate effective communication with team members regarding patient eligibility and access to services.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with inter-agency service providers to ensure coordinated care.
  • Update and verify patient demographic information during each visit.
  • Confirm and update patient insurance details at every encounter.
  • Act as a substitute for the Patient Registration Specialist when necessary.
  • Input all essential patient information into the electronic health record system while adhering to PHI and HIPAA regulations.
  • Complete all required documentation promptly.
  • Stay informed about community resources and public benefits available to clients.
  • Maintain knowledge of basic HIV disease and treatment issues.
  • Handle sensitive patient information in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Work resourcefully within the system to achieve reasonable objectives; demonstrate flexibility in adapting to process changes and new procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Engage in ongoing performance improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in training and continuing education opportunities provided to staff.

Educational Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree or three (3) years of experience in a healthcare setting focusing on patient registration, eligibility verification, and financial assessments.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Experience with Managed Care or Ryan White programs is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office, and typing skills is essential.
  • Familiarity with medical practice management software (e.g., Athena Health) is required.
  • Strong understanding of medical and dental terminology.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and customer service skills.
  • Outstanding organizational abilities.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred.
