Job Description

Northrop Grumman is seeking a highly qualified, mission-oriented Staff Electronics Engineer (Network Engineer) to support our Avionics Integration organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Management of Networks: Design, operate, and manage companion, RMF compliant classified and unclassified networks in both lab and field environments.
  • Network Management Tools: Deploy, utilize, and maintain network management tools.
  • Network Expansion: Maintain smooth operation of network and network management equipment during network expansion.
  • Network Integration Solutions: Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to design network integration solutions to achieve mission objectives on a wide range of data flow scenarios and use cases.
  • Security Patches: Plan and install security patches in adherence to program security requirements.
  • System Performance: Monitor and sustain target uptime and latency on systems. Recommend and implement system enhancements that will improve the performance, utilization, and reliability of the system, including scripting for optimizing IT environments.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot issues in collaboration with users, sector partners, and vendors. Develop and recommend corrective actions.
  • Network Hardware/Software Purchasing: Collaborate on requirements and planning for network and network management hardware/software purchasing, including upgrades, licenses, warranties, tech support, and refreshes.
  • Documentation: Document designs using detailed schematics, diagrams, and specifications and maintain system documentation, work instructions as needed. Prepare security documentation for hand-offs to Cyber Security.
  • Project Status: Plan and report project status as required for recurring and non-recurring efforts.
  • Independent Work: Work under minimal direction and independently determine and develop approach to solutions.
Basic Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 14 years of related engineering experience; or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of related engineering experience; or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 9 years of related engineering experience.
  • Security Clearance: Current Security+ with CE or equivalent certification under DoD M.
  • Network Expertise: Current expertise with network architecture, network design, requirement specifications, and equipment selection with ability to generate, coordinate, and maintain network designs and configuration artifacts.
  • Routing and Switching Concepts: In-depth knowledge of, and experience with, routing and switching concepts and protocols to include DNS, DHCP, GRE, IPSEC, QOS, VLANs, BGP, OSPF, DMVPN, and EIGRP.
  • Network Operating Systems: Solid understanding of network operating systems (JUNOS, Cisco IOS).
  • Professional Certification: Professional certification (e.g., CCNP, CCDP).
  • Network Deployment and Diagnostics: Experience deploying, configuring, hardening, and diagnosing JSIG/RMF compliant networks, including switches, routers, firewalls, and encryption devices such as GD TACLANES.
  • Network Diagnostic Tools: Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools (e.g., SolarWinds network tools).
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Travel and Work Schedule: Ability to travel, work after hours, and weekends, as needed. Position includes the possibility of about 25% regional/local travel during high operational tempo periods.
  • Rudimentary Scripting: Rudimentary scripting experience.
  • Security Clearance: Active DoD Top Secret clearance.
  • Special Program Access: Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Program Access (SAP/PAR). This SAP/PAR must be obtained prior to commencement of employment and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Splunk, GEM One, Windows Server, and VMWare: Experience with Splunk, GEM One, Windows Server, and VMWare.
  • Advanced Scripting: Experience with advanced Bash/Ruby/Python script writing.
  • Cross Domain Solutions: Experience implementing Cross Domain Solutions.
  • Type 1 Network Encryption: Experience with Type 1 Network encryption.
  • DoD 8570 Certification: DoD 8570 Certification in a primary OS (Windows, Cisco).
  • NetOps/NOC Design: Experience with NetOps/NOC design integrated with program Cyber.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Good communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all types and levels of employees, including counterparts from other sectors.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment where instances are being tested and deployed simultaneously and to adapt quickly to change.
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar IT degree.
