Public Events Support Staff

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, this role involves executing a comprehensive range of unskilled and semi-skilled manual tasks associated with the setup and takedown of public events, as well as the upkeep of the facility and its equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Engage in various activities necessary for the preparation of public events, including but not limited to the assembly, arrangement, and disassembly of furniture, tables, chairs, and staging.

2. Conduct a variety of custodial tasks such as sweeping, scrubbing, debris removal, and mopping during and between events.

3. Carry out numerous responsibilities related to the maintenance of the building, grounds, and equipment, which may include painting, basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs, as well as mechanical maintenance of facility equipment.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

4. Operate necessary equipment and tools, including forklifts and mechanical sweepers.

5. Provide information and directions as needed.

6. Inform the supervisor regarding equipment and facilities requiring repair, along with supplies that need to be ordered.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Familiarity with materials, methods, and practices relevant to maintenance and custodial work.
  • Understanding of safety practices, procedures, and regulations applicable to the tasks performed.
  • Proficiency in basic carpentry, painting, and equipment operation.
  • Ability to work irregular hours as necessary.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
  • Aptitude for receiving detailed information through verbal communication.
  • Capability to exercise sound judgment and make informed decisions.
  • Physical ability to perform a variety of tasks, including seeing, pushing, stooping, and climbing to and from significant heights.
  • Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • Competence in operating various equipment, including forklifts and lawn mowers.
  • Willingness to work in both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Exposure to fumes, dust, chemicals, and mechanical and electrical hazards.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED, along with a minimum of one (1) year of experience in general facility or building maintenance work, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C.
