Job Overview

Position: Full Time, Salaried, Union

Reporting To: Senior Registrar

Minimum Salary: $50,769.00

Objective:

The role involves collaborating closely with the Senior Registrar, Curatorial Department, and Art Preparators to provide essential registrar support for the coordination of temporary and traveling exhibitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the logistics of incoming and outgoing shipments, including packing and courier arrangements related to exhibitions.
  • Examine loan agreements and prepare Certificates of Insurance.
  • Create schedules for installation and deinstallation, prepare condition reports, packing documentation, and manage crate storage.
  • Generate receipts for incoming and outgoing shipments and maintain shipping and crate lists.
  • Develop shipping budgets promptly.
  • Collaborate with curators and exhibition managers.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions and accurately document expenses within the allocated budget.
  • Maintain an updated database of exhibitions and ensure all relevant data is complete.
  • Perform courier duties as required.
  • Assist with various special projects as needed.
  • Comply with national standards and best practices for art museums.

Qualifications:

Education: A BS/BA degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred. A minimum of three years of experience in a museum environment is necessary.

Skills:

  • Preferred experience of at least three years in the registrar's department of an art museum or a similar institution.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field; M.A. preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with collections management databases; TMS experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of standard museum procedures and best practices.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.
  • Knowledge of a foreign language is advantageous.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to bend, lift up to 25 lbs, climb stairs, and walk moderate distances.
  • Capability to remain stationary for up to 6 hours per day.
  • Mobility around the museum, including loading docks, vaults, and offices.
  • Ability to reach above shoulder height.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Color vision and depth perception, with the ability to adjust focus.
