Lozano laboratory.
Scope:
Influences all facets of laboratory management, including the administration of the animal colony and clinical partnerships across the institution.
The ideal candidate will possess a Master's or PhD along with exceptional technical and experimental capabilities.
KEY FUNCTIONS
The successful candidate will oversee laboratory operations and will be accountable for conducting experiments as necessary to support the publication of research findings.
Key responsibilities include:
- Administers the animal facility for the Lozano lab and maintains a small cohort of mice for:
b) assisting lab colleagues as required
c) fulfilling requests for animals from other principal investigators (both within and outside the institution)
- Genotypes mice and employs them for experiments as needed.
- Initiates new experiments as projects develop and proactively suggests experimental approaches. The following skills are essential:
b) Real-time PCR
c) Western blotting
d) IHC staining
e) Cell culture, including the preparation of MEFs
- Manages Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) and animal protocols. Prepares for semi-annual Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) inspections. Coordinates with Veterinary Medicine to facilitate animal imports and exports.
- Familiar with eGlobal Shipping. Prepares all shipping documentation for the laboratory.
- Organizes and annotates tissue samples in -80C freezers and cell lines in liquid nitrogen storage.
- Places orders for laboratory reagents, supplies, research animals, and mouse room cage-cards.
- Oversees inventory of supplies and equipment, tracking expenses effectively.
- Applies laboratory expertise to identify and resolve operational challenges within the research environment and collaborates with others to address issues.
- Supports graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in their research projects.
- Maintains all laboratory equipment in optimal condition.
- Collaborates with the laboratory safety officer to ensure adherence to state, federal, and institutional regulations regarding the storage, use, and disposal of materials. Prepares for annual Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) inspections.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Required:
Bachelor's degree.
Preferred:
Master's degree
EXPERIENCE
Required:
Seven years of experience in scientific, research, or clinical laboratory settings, including four years in a supervisory or managerial role. With a preferred degree, five years of experience is required, including four years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.
