Position Overview

Role Summary: As a key member of the Ultium Cells team, the Environmental Engineer will be responsible for developing and executing environmental strategies that ensure compliance with regulations while promoting sustainability initiatives.

Company Background: Ultium Cells LLC is a pioneering entity in the lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing sector, a collaboration between two industry leaders, LG Energy Solutions and General Motors. Our state-of-the-art facility is designed to leverage cutting-edge technology to produce battery cells for electric vehicles, reflecting a significant investment in the future of sustainable transportation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing systems, including production workflows, wastewater management, stormwater controls, air quality impacts, chemical handling, and waste recycling programs to ensure adherence to environmental standards.
  • Conduct site assessments and facility inspections to collect data for environmental projects.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation and assist in the formulation of project proposals.
  • Collaborate with a variety of industrial partners.
  • Interpret and apply environmental regulations and guidelines effectively.
  • Establish strong working relationships and communicate efficiently with supervisors, project leaders, team members, clients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor environmental metrics and progress, providing insights for ongoing improvements.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in environmental management, including SWPPP, SPCC, wastewater, Title V air compliance, or RCRA hazardous waste.
  • Expertise in Air, Storm Water, and Wastewater Permitting, along with Large Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements.
  • Experience in conducting environmental due diligence and compliance projects.
  • Background in environmental engineering or a related scientific discipline, ideally within a manufacturing context.
  • Ability to design systems that safeguard air, water, soil, and other natural resources.
  • Conduct inspections and evaluations to ensure compliance with environmental laws.
  • Prepare and present reports on environmental engineering initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance on environmental remediation to governmental agencies, businesses, and community groups.
  • Perform research on potential environmental impacts of new developments.
  • Conduct data analysis to support environmental initiatives.

Educational Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
