Scope of Work
The work undertaken by Hubbard encompasses intricate highway projects, site preparation, paving, utility and drainage systems, surveying, and advanced bridge construction.

General Overview
The Grading Foreman is responsible for overseeing field operations on Earthwork/Roadway/Grading projects. This role involves direct supervision and coordination of the grading crew, as well as participation in the hands-on work performed by the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the grading crew directly.
  • Provide work reports to the Superintendent.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with various heavy machinery used in earth and site projects.
  • Possess knowledge in dirt work, including excavation, grading, surveying, and final excavation tasks.
  • Interpret and understand project drawings and specifications.
  • Monitor crew organization, size, mix ratios, and wage compliance in collaboration with the Superintendent.
  • Report on time and materials utilized.
  • Ensure safety orientations and coaching for crew improvement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
This role typically requires prior experience as a Grade Foreman. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, along with a minimum of three years of experience in the heavy highway sector. Strong organizational skills and effective communication with management and peers are essential.

Physical Requirements:
The following physical demands are representative of those necessary for a Grade Foreman to successfully fulfill the essential functions of this role:

  • Consistent physical effort, including standing for extended periods during an eight-hour work shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry weights frequently ranging from 50 to 90 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for handling construction materials and tools.
  • Maintain alertness to various activities on the construction site.
  • Capable of navigating uneven surfaces and working in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces and climb into excavations as required.

Work Environment:
The characteristics of the work environment for a Grade Foreman include:

  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to high noise levels, grease, and dust typical of construction sites.
  • Regular proximity to heavy machinery and moving equipment.
  • Interaction with various substances commonly found on construction sites.
