POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Systems Architect plays a critical role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of advanced Linux-based systems, Cloud, and SaaS solutions to fulfill CENIC's mission. This position requires providing high-level technical expertise and support for all systems managed by CENIC, with a strong focus on accountability and customer service.

Location: Hybrid
- Set up, configure, maintain, and support Linux servers in remote data centers and on-premises to guarantee optimal performance and availability.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Network Operations, and other departments to troubleshoot, mitigate issues, and ensure project timelines are adhered to.
- Install, configure, and maintain various software applications or appliances on Linux servers, applying software updates and patches regularly to maintain security and system integrity.
- Research and propose new technology implementations, conducting testing to ensure compliance with best practices.
- Design and implement system architectures that align with organizational requirements, adopting an agile approach.
- Automate system processes to enhance efficiency and minimize manual intervention.
- Participate in on-call support rotation and provide mentorship to junior team members.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and manage incidents, ensuring effective solution planning and resolution.
- Conduct system testing and validation to confirm functionality and performance.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Identify potential risks related to system implementation and operation.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in the management and maintenance of Linux-based systems and DNS servers.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using tools such as Ansible, Python, or others.
- Provide training, mentorship, and knowledge sharing for junior engineers and team members.
- Be available to work from the office as required.
- Track and resolve requests through the ticketing system.
- Create comprehensive design documentation and system specifications.
Key Success Factors:
- In-depth knowledge of systems architecture, networking, and cloud computing.
- Expertise in scripting and automation.
- Ability to design, implement, and manage infrastructure as code.
- Proficiency in managing virtual machine platforms, container technologies, Kubernetes clusters, and NAS systems in enterprise settings.
- Strong expertise in Linux operating systems and virtualization technologies.
- Solid understanding of core system technologies such as DNS, package management, user and group management, network, and disk management.
- Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Capability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including developers, operations, and management.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and practices.
Required Education and Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience as a Systems Engineer or in a related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a Linux System Administrator.
- 3+ years of experience in cloud engineering.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Experience managing containerized workloads in standalone environments and at scale with Kubernetes.
- Expertise in automation scripting using Python and frameworks such as Ansible, Chef, and Puppet.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Zabbix.
- Experience with Rocky and Ubuntu is advantageous.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Pulumi or Terraform is a plus.
- Familiarity with macOS.
- Experience utilizing AWS resources such as EC2, RDS, and VPC.
