Position Overview:

The Automation Controls Engineer is tasked with the design and development of systems that enhance manufacturing processes. This role involves close collaboration with departmental teams and leadership to assess current automation capabilities and identify future opportunities. You will create comprehensive project roadmaps for automation initiatives that align with business goals. Additionally, this position plays a crucial role in boosting production efficiency by analyzing performance metrics and implementing enhancements. Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Engineering:
  • Interpret and update electrical wiring diagrams using AutoCAD/SolidWorks.
  • Develop electrical designs, schematics, and documentation in AutoCAD.
  • Analyze mechanical design drawings to identify electrical requirements.
  • Research and evaluate supplier products for assembly components.
  • Adhere to established standards for drawings and component selection.
  • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of new standards.
  • Interpret and develop electrical bills of materials.
  • Utilize hand tools and multi-meters for safe operations within electrical panels.
  • Power up electrical systems and configure hardware according to application specifications.
  • Ensure quality control of assembly work and address inquiries during the assembly process.
  • Collaborate with Sales Engineers to provide input for quote preparation as needed.
  • Monitor quality during project implementation and respond to inquiries.
  • Possess a fundamental understanding of electrical principles such as Ohm's Law and Watt's Law.
  • Software Development:
  • Design, develop, and program PLC code based on specified requirements.
  • Understand internal customer needs for GUI/communication interfaces and networking, creating specifications accordingly.
  • Review, repair, and redesign legacy code as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot issues with existing systems installed by the company.
  • Write user manuals to convey the functionality of developed programs.
  • Have a basic understanding of PC networking and Boolean Logic.
  • Interpret PLC Ladder Logic effectively.
  • General Expectations:

  • Provide timely and detailed updates on project status.
  • Ensure quality standards are upheld in a highly regulated, process-driven environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Controls/Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the automation sector.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks for design and drafting.
  • Experience with Programming Logic Controllers (PLC) such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens.
  • Skilled in configuring and designing HMI/OIT systems.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot control system issues effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and positive team player.
  • Creative thinker with a results-oriented mindset, focused on detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to continuous self-improvement and organizational skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Training in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.
  • Familiarity with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general computer skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as UL and CE.
  • Experience with Vision Systems and various Motion Controllers.
  • Familiarity with industrial robotic applications.
